FREEPORT, FL – January, 2008 – Emerald Waste Services, LLC (“Emerald”), a WHI Capital Partners portfolio company today announced the acquisition of MacLand Disposal Center (“Macland”), a Moss Point, Mississippi-based owner/operator of two landfills. This transaction is an important milestone in the development of Emerald as it further expands its service territory, which now runs from Pascagoula, MS to Tallahassee, FL. Emerald continues to be the leading independent provider of non-hazardous solid waste management services in its region.
Macland’s two landfill sites are located approximately [5] miles outside of Pascagoula, MS, and less than [25] miles from Mobile, AL. The lined, Subtitle D landfill is 88 acres and services the growing needs of the energy, industrial and manufacturing customers in the area through a number of significant service contracts. Along with the Construction & Demolition (C&D) landfill site which was acquired as part of the transaction, Emerald now owns and operates 10 landfills in its service territory, and operates more than [xx] residential, commercial and construction waste collection routes.
“We set out to build Emerald into a market leader in the region two years ago, and we’ve grown to be the leading independent waste company in the Gulf Coast.” said Emerald Waste Services’ CEO, Bart Begley. “The MacLand acquisition is the first in a number of strategic initiatives which moves us towards our goal of increasing our municipal solid waste (MSW) capacity, both in disposal and collection.”
Emerald has built its MSW collection business in Florida and Alabama, and is a leading provider of MSW collection services in Bay County, Florida [others where we can say we lead?]. The strategic locations of Emerald’s landfill assets in this region combined with its hauling operations have provided the Company a platform to capitalize on the region’s rapid development. With nine landfills, Emerald is the largest owner of C&D landfill airspace in the Gulf Coast region stretching from southeast Mississippi to northwest Florida. Emerald has capitalized on its airspace advantage to become the dominant C&D hauler in its market territories, garnering a leading market share in many counties.
“The combination of Emerald’s existing landfill capacity and MSW collection routes with the Macland Subtitle D and C&D facilities provides us with a unique platform in the area” said WHI Capital Partners’ Managing Partner Adam Schecter. “We have put the necessary capital structure in place in connection with the MacLand acquisition to seize the MSW opportunities we have targeted."
Since its formation, Emerald has successfully closed and integrated six acquisitions in the Gulf Coast region to become the largest independent provider of waste management services in this high growth geography. The Company currently manages collection routes and landfill operations in 18 counties extending from Tallahassee, Florida to Pascagoula; Mississippi and the Company serves approximately 2,100 commercial MSW customers, 10,250 residential MSW customers, 2,600 C&D customers and 600 portable toilet accounts.
Emerald Waste Services (formerly Waste Recyclers Holdings), a WHI Capital Partners portfolio company, is the market leader in solid waste services in Northwest Florida.
