MacLand Waste Water Treatment Plant

In May of 2008, EWS completed construction of a new state-of-the-art biological wastewater treatment plant at the MacLand Disposal Center facility in Moss Point, Mississippi.  This treatment plant is designed to treat up to 100,000 gallons per day of leachate generated from the on-site landfill disposal operations.  The leachate is treated to lower the ammonia nitrogen concentration to below a permit limit of 100 mg/L prior to being discharged to the Escatawpa Publicly Owned Treatment Works (POTW).  The ammonia nitrogen concentrations are reduced utilizing the nitrification/denitrification process.

 Phytoremediation Process

Phytoremediation is a carbon footprint friendly technology used by EWS to ensure ground water health at our landfills.  We use the process to pre-empt ground water contamination by planting Willow, Hybrid Poplar and Southern Pine trees which absorb water from aquifers beneath our landfills and through photosynethis filler the water then release pure water vapor into the atmosphere.  One mature Willow will process nearly 5,000 gallons of ground water each day.  The trees burn zero hydro-carbons as does the traditional pump and treat.  Phytoremediation is also attractive because the system is in place now and into the future for 50 years or longer. EWS is proud to be the first company in the Florida Panhandle to use and promote the “Green“  technology of Phytoremediation to enhance and protect the environment. Please contact us to learn how your community can use “Smart” technology to protect the environment.

Municipal Recycling Programs

EWS works with municipalities to create new and innovative recycling programs.  As going green becomes more important to protect and preserve our environment many municipalities are looking for ways to create programs and increase participation.  EWS has the expertise to help every community create a program that works for them.  Pictured above are 45 gallon carts that are used in the Downtown City of DeLand Recycling program.  More information about this specific program can be found on our company news page.
