Emerald Waste Services currently owns and operates landfills. Each site is staffed with highly trained, state certified employees who insure environmentally sound operations.
Emerald Waste Services has the experience to design, permit, construct, and operate subtitle D landfills. The knowledge comes from the company’s senior management team with an average of 20 years of industry experience.
EWS has the expertise, knowledge and manpower for landfill closures and remediation. Who else but EWS would you rely on for the safe and environmentally sound handling of your facility.
Landfill Closure- By EPA requirement and state regulation landfills are required to have an engineered closure plan. The plan includes how the operator intends to cover and vegetate a landfill once it has reached capacity. As a state-of-the-art operator EWS does not subscribe to a close upon capacity philosophy, a deferred cost practice. EWS is committed to "Close as You Go" landfill management because we believe implementing closure as a section of the landfill is filled is the most responsible manner to protect the environment.
Landfill Remediation- Remediation by definition is the effort industry takes to contain and where possible eliminate a release of a soluble material such as iron, (FE), a liquid containing Constituents of Concern, (COC) or a green house gas, CO2, as an example. Remediation in the world of solid waste management includes two primary activities, primitive and post release activity. EWS employees primitive action in our remediation effort based on our assessment that prevention is the most cost effect manner to conduct business but more importantly it meets the company mandate of "Protect the Environment First". Our Mississippi landfill pre-treats liquids removed from the landfill using bacteria to consume ammonium nitrates to levels less than 1mg/l, far below EPA standards. In Alabama we passively vent gas and monitor CO2 to ensure we do not exceed Title-V release regulations. In Florida we are the first to implement Phytoremediation, the use of indigenous vegetation to extract AL, FE and sulfates from groundwater at the Zone of Discharge, (ZOD), a primitive carbon foot print success story in-lieu-of pump and treat. We are the first to use monitoring well video techniques to identify bacteria growth in well screens resulting in false/positive detection of metals in monitoring wells, eliminating aquifer intrusion and site assessment activities. EWS's use of forward thinking design and engineering places us at the forefront of environmental responsibility based on a commitment of zero carbon emissions.
